Exploring the beautiful nature of California
California Nature: Artists & Leaders
|
|
The State of California
has many natural resources, and at California Nature we believe
that California artists are one of our great assets. The
definition of an artist is wide-ranging and covers a broad
spectrum of activities to do with creating art, practicing the
arts and/or demonstrating an art. In deciding which artists we
would highlight on our websites, we wanted to recognize persons,
living or deceased, who have made significant contributions to
the arts in California either as performing or practicing
artists in individual disciplines. We also wanted to include
creative people from California who have made a positive impact
in their field, including athletes..
The individual may be a native of the state or one who adopted
California as home. Everyone listed here has demonstrated the
diversity of artistic accomplishment that comprises the rich
cultural tapestry of this state. California is an amazing state
where options are limitless and dreams become reality.

Performing Artists- Performing arts include the
dance, music, opera, drama, and circus arts. Artists who
participate in performing arts in front of an audience are
called performers, including actors, comedians, dancers,
musicians, and singers. Performing arts are also supported by
workers in related fields, such as songwriting and stagecraft.
Visual Artists- The
visual arts are art forms that focus on the creation of works
which are primarily visual in nature, such as drawing, painting,
photography, printmaking. The current usage of the term "visual
arts" includes fine arts as well as crafts.
Leaders- Some Californians cannot be easily
placed in a category. They may be a special athlete or other
leader. These people used their creativity and skills to become
outstanding examples for others and therefore need to be
recognized by California Nature.

Writers- A writer is anyone
who creates a written work, though the word usually designates
those who write creatively or professionally, as well as those
who have written in many different forms. The word is almost
synonymous with author. A writer may compose in many different
forms including poetry, prose, or music. Accordingly, a writer
in specialist mode may rank as a poet, novelist, copywriter,
composer, lyricist, playwright, journalist, screenwriter for
film or television, etc.
Only in California could you drive from the desert to the beach,
and from the mountains to agricultural fields in one day. Only
in California could you surf, dine with movie stars, go wine
tasting and then play in the snow. Only in California would you
find an exhibit dedicated to Elizabeth Taylor next to an exhibit
on Ansel Adams because they both spent the majority of their
lives making history in this state.

In selecting outstanding Californians, we used the California
Museum of History for many of the honorees in California
Nature. These people have been honored in the California Hall of
Fame for their contribution to the State of California.
Conceived by First Lady Maria Shriver, The California Museum’s
California Hall of Fame was established in 2006 to honor
legendary people who embody California’s innovative spirit and
have made their mark on history.
The California Hall of Fame is a landmark destination featured
in the Museum, which serves to inspire visitors by exhibiting
the diverse, creative and extraordinary stories of trailblazers,
leaders and legends who have called California home.
Installing the inductees into the California Hall of Fame
institution in a formal state ceremony in Sacramento each year,
at which inductees (or their families for the posthumous awards)
receive the Spirit of California medal.
