Jessie Wright is an emerging artist and naturalist from Northern California. Her mediums include oils, acrylics, and watercolors. Jessie’s style draws inspiration from California Impressionism, coupled with countless hours exploring the nuances of the natural world. She loves plein air painting, as it combines the joy of being in nature with art. As a Certified California Naturalist, Jessie is always curious about the intersection between nature and art.
My creative process is one of joyful exploration and observation of the world around me.
As a child, I spent countless hours in nature, hiking and walking, building forts, climbing trees, and riding horses. But then, I'd take a break in the shade of ponderosa pines and sketch the nature in the Sierra Nevada forest. Or I'd carve soapstone my father found nearby.
I'm a self-taught artist, but I had the best art teacher in high school, who taught a strong foundation of art skills: shades and values, perspective, etc. In the creative process, I embrace the idea of imperfections equal authenticity.
Formally, I studied creative nonfiction, and yet my path meandered to painting. Last year, I began stone carving, rediscovering my love for shaping rocks into a creative form.
